Biography:

Kimberley Book is a registered social worker and psychotherapist with nearly 20 years of experience. As a Black woman with roots in Trinidad, the USA, Italy, and Ireland, she is honored to be part of a team dedicated to supporting Black mental health in Canada.

Her professional journey includes roles as a crisis counselor, holistic practitioner, and therapist. Kimberley is passionate about mind-body approaches to healing and specializes in supporting adults experiencing anxiety, chronic stress, relationship challenges, and trauma-related symptoms such as emotional overwhelm, numbness, hypervigilance, irritability, insomnia, disconnection, and shame. She recognizes that these symptoms often reflect the body’s attempts to ensure safety and can feel so deeply ingrained that they seem like part of one’s identity.

Kimberley’s therapeutic approach focuses on balancing the nervous system and exploring factors such as family history, culture, spirituality, oppression, health, and past experiences. Over time, this work can help soften ingrained patterns and symptoms, leading to a sense of lightness, alignment, and connection.

Her practice is collaborative, culturally-affirming, and grounded in neuroscience. Kimberley integrates mindfulness-based strategies, narrative therapy, somatic approaches, EMDR, and anti-oppressive practices to support clients in achieving their goals. She looks forward to connecting and working together.

Perinatal and Family Care:

Kimberley's expertise in addressing anxiety, chronic stress, relationship challenges, and trauma-related symptoms is particularly relevant for those experiencing the emotional and physical demands of family life. Kimberley recognizes that the perinatal period often involves heightened vulnerability and deeply ingrained patterns of stress or trauma, which she helps to address by balancing the nervous system and exploring influences such as family history, culture, spirituality, and past experiences.

Through a culturally affirming and collaborative approach, Kimberley uses evidence-based strategies, including mindfulness-based practices, somatic approaches, narrative therapy, and EMDR, to support her clients. She can work with parents and families to foster emotional resilience, strengthen relationships, and create a sense of alignment and connection, empowering them to navigate family dynamics with greater ease and confidence.
