Amma Gyamfowa is the Founder and Lead Clinical Therapist of Womanist Healing Counselling Services and the Co-Founder of The Healing Retreat. As a Ghanaian-Canadian mental health therapist, registered social worker, community researcher, and international speaker, she has dedicated the past decade to supporting youth and diverse communities in their mental health journeys.
She believes that investing in mental health has the power to transform every aspect of life. Her work focuses on creating safe, accessible, and affirming resources for individuals of all identities, recognizing the impact of depression, anxiety, trauma, and family challenges on self-perception. Through one-on-one sessions, she collaborates with clients to develop personalized plans for growth and healing, drawing on approaches such as narrative and cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and art-based techniques.
Amma works with clients to uncover underlying patterns, emotions, and environmental factors that may be limiting their potential. Using a trauma-informed and strength-based lens, she aims to foster resilience and empower individuals on their healing journeys. She offers free consultations to those ready to take the first step toward transformation.
Womanist Healing offers culturally empowering, trauma-informed counselling. Services include addressing challenges like postpartum anxiety, parenting stress, and family dynamics through individual therapy, workshops, and community-based support. These initiatives aim to provide affirming resources for individuals navigating parenthood and familial relationships, fostering resilience and well-being.
