The preconception visit is a chance for you to talk through any health concerns or questions or worries you may have about getting pregnant and pregnancy. Your healthcare provider will ask you about:
- Your health and lifestyle
- Your diet and physical activity
- Your periods
- Previous pregnancies
- Medications
- Medical history and any conditions
- Exposure to any hazardous substances
- Your mental health and well being
- Your family health history
Your healthcare provider will also want to:
- Check your weight
- Check your blood pressure
- Perform a pelvic exam
- Perform a Pap smear (if you haven’t had one in recent years)
- Do a blood test
- Screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and other infectious diseases
